These gilders dusters are made with an extremely soft synthetic hair that is ideal for removing excess gold leaf after gilding. They will not scratch the gold. These can also be used as water mops for applying water when water gilding or gelatin size when glass gilding.
The hairs are attached to the black lacquered handle with quills and bound tightly with a strong gold-colored wire.
If the duster becomes contaminated, it can be cleaned with water, or with a solvent appropriate for the adhesive that was used. It is best dried by using a pipe-cleaner wrapped around the handle to make a hook, and hanging the mop with the hair side down.
